Shuster Announces Grant to Everett Volunteer Fire Company #1

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Shuster held a check presentation ceremony to congratulate Everett Volunteer Fire Company #1 on their successful application for a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Fire Fighters Program grant.  The fire company was awarded a grant in the amount of $82,541 for replacement hoses, nozzles and air packs.

“Our volunteer fire fighters are our first line of defense in times of emergency,” Shuster said.  “These firefighters are our friends and our neighbors and they never shy away from danger in their service to our communities.”

“The Everett Fire Company is very appreciative of the funding provided to us through the Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program.  This has allowed our company to update and replace outdated and obsolete hose and nozzles,” said Chief Jim Stone.  “The grant has further allowed us to provide our firefighters with the most up-to-date Air Packs enhancing firefighter safety.   Without this vital funding, these projects would not have been possible for several years.”

“These grants enable these public servants to get the training and equipment they need to do their jobs and stay safe in the line of duty,” Shuster added.  “If it weren’t for this grant program, fire companies like Everett wouldn’t be able to afford the equipment they need.”

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP) awards one-year grants directly to fire departments and rescue personnel to support the nation's first responders and the services they deliver. The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness (SLGCP) administers the program, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.
