SHUSTER, MURTHA CALL FOR PERMANENT FLIGHT 93 MEMORIAL IN U.S. CAPITOL

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster will introduce legislation today to commemorate the heroes on board Flight 93 in the U.S. Capitol.  Shuster, along with Congressman John Murtha, would like to place a permanent memorial in the U.S. Capitol where the brave actions of the men and women who selflessly saved the lives of others can be remembered.

“The heroes aboard Flight 93 deserve a formal memorial in the Capitol building because their actions defended everything it symbolizes to the world – freedom, democracy and America,” said Shuster.  “It is my hope that this legislation will pass and future generations will remember the self-sacrificing actions of the passengers and crew aboard Flight 93.”

“The target of the terrorists was the United States Capitol or the White House, so it's fitting that we pay tribute to the heroes of Flight 93 with an appropriate memorial here,” said Murtha.

Flight 93, which crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania after passengers courageously fought for America’s freedoms, would have a place of recognition in the Capitol building where visitors, dignitaries, and members of Congress can remember their unprecedented and heroic actions.

The legislation will be introduced today by Shuster and Murtha in the House of Representatives, and by Senators Rick Santorum and Kent Conrad (North Dakota) in the Senate.
