Shuster Announces Grants to Franklin County Fire Companies

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Shuster held a combined check presentation ceremony in Franklin County to congratulate the Friendship Engine & Hose Company #1 and the Franklin Fire Company #4 on their successful application for Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Fire Fighters Program grants.

The Friendship Engine & Hose Co. #1 received a grant in the amount of $21,731 for upgraded communications equipment. The Franklin Fire Co. #4 received a grant for $186,960.

“I congratulate the Franklin and Friendship fire companies for their successful grant applications,” Shuster said.  “The equipment purchased through these grants will keep our volunteer firefighters safe and able to serve their communities.”

"We are proud and fortunate to have representatives of the government serving our country who acknowledge the need for additional funding for emergency responders,” said Fire Chief Robert W. Murray of the Friendship Fire Company. “The Assistance to Fire Fighters Grant Program, through the Department of Homeland Security, is a great asset to emergency responders throughout the country and we appreciate Mr. Shuster’s support for this much needed program."

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP) awards one-year grants directly to fire departments and rescue personnel to support the nation's first responders and the services they deliver. The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness (SLGCP) administers the program, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.
