| Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that the Glendale School district has received a federal Department of Education Carol M. White Physical Education Program grant in the amount of $403,890. The grant will be used to enhance physical education throughout the school district.
“This grant is great news for families with children in the Glendale School District,” Shuster said. “Physical education is a necessary part of the classroom curriculum especially in today’s environment where so many of our kids don’t get the exercise they need to lead a healthy life.”
“The purpose of the grant is to redesign the traditional Physical Education program to a skill based obesity prevention, wellness and nutrition program,” said Edward Disabato the Grant Administrator for the Glendale School District.
Dr. Dennis Bruno, Superintendent of Glendale School District added: “This grant will enable the Glendale School District to create opportunities for our students, staff and community that can improve their quality of life and productivity for years to come.”
“Learning proper nutrition and the huge benefits of exercise early on is the corner stone to a long, healthy life that will contribute to lower healthcare costs and a better standard of living down the road,” Shuster added. “This grant will have a lasting impact on Glendale’s students.”
The Carol M. White Physical Education Program is designed to provide funds to local educational agencies and community-based organizations to initiate, expand, and improve physical education programs for K-12 students in order to meet and maintain state standards. The Glendale School District will use the grant to create an enhanced physical education curriculum to target the cardiovascular health of students throughout the school district.
