| Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that the Northern Cambria Community Development Corporation has received two grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development totaling $395,529.00 to provide permanent rental housing for homeless individuals with disabilities.
The grants are part of the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s ongoing Continuum of Care program to provide permanent and transitional housing to homeless persons. In addition, Continuum grants fund important services including job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment and child care.
“These grants will make a positive impact on families and individuals who are working towards a better life,” Shuster said. “The Northern Cambria Community Development Corporation works tirelessly to offer support for people looking for homes, jobs and a stable environment. Their work improves lives and builds communities and these grants will help them in their mission.”
The Continuum of Care grants for the Northern Cambria Community Development Corporation will be used for permanent rental housing for people looking to move from homelessness to a stable residence. The funds will be utilized in the Corporation’s Campbell Place and Independence Gardens projects.
“The approval of these funds will provide three years of supportive services to the residents at these two sites,” stated Jerry Brant, NCCDC President. “Independence Gardens has an exceptional six year track record of providing these services and its residents have been a true example of how this program can have a positive impact on people’s lives,” said Brant. “We would like to thank Congressman Shuster for his continuing support and HUD for their commitment to this area.”
“The homeless must not become invisible or marginalized,” said Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso Jackson. “Our response tells us much about our humanity as a people and a nation. When our fellow citizens literally need shelter from the storm, or a meal, or counseling, or help to regain their footing in life, we must be there to respond.” |
