Shuster Announces Grants to Huntingdon County Fire Companies

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Shuster took part in a series of check presentation ceremonies to announce that four fire companies in Huntingdon County have been awarded grants from the Department of Homeland Security to help them better protect the communities they serve.

“Our volunteer fire fighters are our first line of defense in times of emergency,” Shuster said.  “These firefighters are our friends and our neighbors and they never shy away from danger in their service to our communities.  These grants enable these public servants to get the training and equipment they need to do their jobs and stay safe in the line of duty.”

The four fire companies who received the Assistance to Fire Fighters Program grants are:

·   The Alexandria Volunteer Fire Company which received a grant in the amount of $94,525;

·   The Shavers Creek Valley Community VFC in Petersburg which received a grant in the amount of $95,880;

·   The Huntingdon Fire Department, which received a grant in the amount of $186,960.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP) awards one-year grants directly to fire departments and rescue personnel to support the nation's first responders and the services they deliver. The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness (SLGCP) administers the program, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.
