| Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement on the passage of the post-veto Democrat Iraq spending bill:
“The Democrats have chosen once again to play with the safety of our troops and the security of our country with a war spending bill that will only be met with a veto pen if it gets to the President’s desk. All the while, our troops in the field are wondering where their support is going and whether they will have the money they need for bullets, armor, and equipment to keep up the fight.
The war supplemental passed last night would only extend funding for our troops in Iraq for 60 days. This drip and drab method of funding a war is unacceptable. We cannot fund a war against the jihadists bullet by bullet and moment by moment.
No matter what you think about the war, our troops should not become pawns in a polarized debate where politicians think they are generals and our troops suffer for their hesitation. It’s time to put politics aside and fully fund our troops engaged in combat in Iraq.” |
