Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster voted to improve math and science education throughout the country as the House passed H.R. 363, the “Sowing the Seeds Through Science and Engineering Research Act” and H.R. H.R. 362, the “10,000 Teachers, 10 Million Minds Science and Math Scholarship Act.”
“H.R. 363 deals with the growing divide in American scientific and engineering research when compared to our global competitors,” Shuster said. “China and India are investing huge amounts of money and time into research on the cutting edges of technology. America cannot be left behind.”
H.R. 363 offers rewards for younger students above and beyond existing research grants to encourage them to continue their work in the fields of science and engineering in the United States.
H.R. 362, the “10,000 Teachers, 10 Million Minds Science and Math Scholarship Act” is aimed at increasing the quantity and quality of math and science teachers in America. The legislation increases the number and amount of grants available to teachers and students who purse continued education in the fields of science and engineering.
“In order to remain competitive in the global economy, our schools must attract smart, motivated and eager math and science teachers,” Shuster said. “Unfortunately, for many math and science specialists, the ability to earn more in business keeps them away from education. This important legislation will allow qualified teachers to stay in the classroom and give our children a competitive math education.” |
