Shuster Announces Congressional Page Appointment

Dashell Fittry Appointed Republican Page to Represent the 9th District

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to congratulate Dashell Fittry for his work as a Republican Page in the House of Representatives.  Dashell, a junior at Big Spring High School in Newville, was appointed earlier this month to work in the House Page Program until August.

“I am pleased to have Dashell represent Pennsylvania’s 9th district as a Congressional Page,” Shuster said.  “He is a bright, energetic young man who has taken to the hectic pace of Congress with ease.”

Congressional Page positions afford students a hands-on opportunity to see their government in action.  An appointment to the Congressional Page Program is tantamount to an all access pass to the ins-and-outs of the inner-workings of Congress.

“It is my hope that Dashell will use the time spent in Washington as a learning experience to benefit his studies and future aspirations,” Shuster added.  “There’s no better civics class than the floor of the House of Representatives and no better curriculum than Congress in action.”

“It’s been a great experience,” Dashell said.  “I met many interesting and intriguing people here from Congressman to fellow pages from across the country.  I am happy to have had this experience.”

Dashell has already shown great promise in public affairs at Big Spring High School.  He was selected by his peers to represent their interests in student council where he held several positions.  In addition to his role in student government, Dashell has also shown his abilities in the arts.  He has performed in leading rolls in high school productions both years while attending Big Spring.  Dashell is praised by his teachers for his work ethic and leadership in and out of the classroom.

The Congressional Page Program has played an important role in American history since 1827 when the first Page served in the 20th Congress.  The educational experience afforded to a Page is unparalleled and provides them with a view of the operations of the legislative branch.  Pages deliver legislative materials to locations across the Congressional Complex, answer phones in the Members’ Cloakrooms, and relay messages for Members of Congress.  The young men and women who serve in these positions are essential to the successful operation of Congress.
