Shuster Announces Grant to Plumville Volunteer Fire Department

Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that the Plumville District volunteer Fire Department has received Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Program grant in the amount of $47,025.00.

The funds from the grant will be used by the fire department to purchase critical bunker gear for their fire fighters.  The grant will enable the Plumville Volunteer Fire Department to replace aging protective gear, like gloves, fire coats and other articles with new equipment that meets current safety regulations.

“The Plumville VFD does its share of fundraising, but even with community support some important equipment remains out of reach,” Shuster said.  “The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program remains the only source of federal support for our first responders.  I am proud to see our tax dollars help the people who help us each and every day.”

“We, the officers and members of the Plumville VFD gratefully accept and fully appreciate the grant,” said Bill Hutchinson, Assistant Chief for the Plumville VFD. “This money will replace worn personal protective equipment and help keep our firefighters safer under adverse conditions.”

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP) awards one-year grants directly to fire departments to support the nation's firefighters and the services they deliver. The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness (SLGCP) administers the program, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.
