| Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster released the following statement on the Conference Report on the Democrat-crafted Iraq supplemental spending bill scheduled to be voted on this evening:
“Despite the objections of our military’s leadership, the recommendations of General Petraeus and the resolve of our Commander in Chief, the Democrats in the House will pass an emergency war spending bill that signals a weakness in our resolve and our commitment to win the War on Terror.
I am disturbed that the Majority Leader of the Senate has declared that the war in Iraq “is lost.” I am disappointed the Speaker of the House could not find time in her schedule to meet with General Petraeus on progress in the war. The Democrats have made their statement on Iraq. They seek victory in retreat.
Arbitrary withdrawal dates do nothing but embolden our enemy, weaken the trust we have in our allies, and put Iraqi civilians in danger. I look forward to the President’s quick veto of this ill-thought legislation so we can go forward with the people’s business and pass a clean funding bill for our troops.”
