| Washington, DC – Last night, the House passed H.R. 1495, the Water Resources Development Act of 2007; legislation that will authorize the completion of outstanding and new U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works projects throughout the nation.
“Passage of this important legislation will authorize the Army Corps to continue projects throughout Pennsylvania and the 9th district,” Shuster said. “This means that improvements to our water and sewer infrastructure, and enhancements in flood protection will move forward.”
“Strong investment into our local infrastructure builds a strong economy and even stronger economic development in the 9th district,” Shuster said.
The Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) authorizes all public works projects for the Army Corps of Engineers. Although the bill is usually reauthorized by Congress every two years, Congress could not agree on a final bill last year, leaving the Army Corps of Engineers with a backlog of projects. H.R. 1495 will address and alleviate this backlog.
“Army Corps of Engineers projects have improved the lives of thousands of people across central and western Pennsylvania,” Shuster added. “I am proud to see the House come together to pass this important legislation and I look forward to its quick consideration in the Senate.” |
