Michael and Deirdre DeVeny of Manchester, Pennsylvania were recently selected by U.S. Congressman Todd Platts (PA-19) to be one of more than 180 Congressional Angels in AdoptionT honored at a national ceremony held today in Washington, D.C by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI). "It is a great honor for me to nominate the DeVeny's for this well-deserved recognition," Congressman Platts said. "By opening their home and their hearts to children in need, they have made a difference in our community and have given seven children the opportunity to grow up in a happy, loving home." The DeVeny's have provided a loving home for seven adopted children. Veronika (13), Viktoria (11) and Lada (10) were adopted as siblings in 2000 from Russia. Michael (13), Merry-Viktoria (11), Alexander (10) and Owen (9) were adopted as siblings in 2002 from Kazakhstan. The DeVeney's sincere commitment to helping children has led them to serve as mentors to other families who desire to adopt. Through their love and generosity, the DeVeny's have made a huge difference in the lives of their children, countless families and their community. CCAI is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to raising awareness about the tens of thousands of foster children in this country and the millions of orphans around the world in need of permanent, safe, and loving homes; and to eliminating the barriers that hinder these children from realizing their basic need of a family.
