Congressional Arts Competition Open for Area High School Students |

Congressman Platts announces launch of the competition in 19th DistrictYork, PA - Congressman Todd Platts is inviting high school students throughout the 19th Congressional District to submit artwork for "An Artistic Discovery," the annual Congressional High School Art Competition. The competition is open to all students in grades 9-12 who reside or attend school in the 19th Congressional District. Each Congressional office is invited to coordinate a local segment of the national competition, and the top winning piece from each local competition becomes part of a national exhibition of artwork to be displayed through May 2006 in the Cannon Tunnel, a pedestrian walkway leading to the United States Capitol Building. The first runner-up from the local competition will have his/her piece of artwork displayed for one year in Congressman Platts' Washington, D.C. office. Three additional runners-up will have their winning artwork displayed for one year in one of Congressman Platts' three district offices. All submitted artwork must adhere to specific guidelines set forth by the Architect of the Capitol and be accompanied by a completed Student Information/Release Form. A copy of the guidelines and form can be obtained by calling (717) 600-1919 or by visiting Congressman Platts' web site at www.house.gov/platts. Students must submit their artwork by Friday, April 29, 2005 at 5:00 p.m. to any of Congressman Platts' three district offices. The Cumberland County District Office is located at 59 West Louther Street, Carlisle, PA 17013. The Adams County District Office is located at 22 Chambersburg Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325. The York County District Office is located at 2209 East Market Street, York, PA 17402.
