(Warwick, R.I.) - Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) today expressed deep outrage over reports that the AIG insurance company used $165 million in government funding to pay top executive bonuses. “It is unacceptable that AIG knew they were in trouble, yet still chose to reward complete incompetence with taxpayer money. AIG executives must be held more accountable for their decision and may need to pay for this mismanagement with their jobs. I will closely monitor this situation to ensure they follow through on their commitment to the Department of Treasury to find a way to repay taxpayers. I would like to commend Chairman Barney Frank for scheduling Wednesday’s House Financial Services subcommittee hearing on this issue and for his continued oversight to make sure that taxpayer funds are being used responsibly to get our economy back on track.” -30- |
