East Greenwich Receives Fire Funding |
|
|
WARWICK, RI – Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) today announced funding for the East Greenwich Fire District through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters program. These awards are administered by the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. “It is important that our local fire departments have the opportunity to obtain new equipment, especially in tight budget times,” said Langevin. “Enabling first responders to acquire the most up-to-date equipment offers peace of mind not only to the firefighters who use it, but the citizens they serve.” East Greenwich will receive $17,000 to purchase a new, higher capacity pump for the town fire boat, as well as new self-contained breathing apparatus for fighting fires while on the water. Through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, the Department of Homeland Security awards grants to firefighters, emergency response personnel and first responders throughout the country to enhance response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public. The grants provide resources for local fire departments and emergency medical services programs to receive training, conduct first responder health and safety programs and buy equipment and response vehicles. -30- |
