Langevin Nominates Three to Military Service Academies

WARWICK, R.I. – Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) recently announced that he has nominated John M. Gelsomino of North Scituate to the United States Air Force Academy and Bryan P. Gilday and Robert J .Hopkins of East Greenwich to the United States Naval Academy.

“Nominating young Rhode Islanders to our service academies is one of my greatest privileges as a Representative,” said Langevin. “I am very proud of these three young men who are volunteering to serve our country.”

• Gelsomino is a senior at Ponaganset High School. He is a member of the National Honor Society, captain of the football team, throws the javelin for the track team and sings in the chorus.

• Gilday is a senior at East Greenwich High School. He is a Leading Petty Officer in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps and a member of the Lacrosse team.

• Hopkins is a senior at East Greenwich High School. He is an honor roll student, captain of the hockey team and volunteers with the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society and Tomorrow Fund.

There are a number of stringent academic, medical and physical requirements that applicants to the U.S. Service Academies must meet to be considered for acceptance. To fulfill the academic qualifications, each candidate should have an above-average high school or college academic record and a strong performance on the standardized American College Testing Assessment Program Exam or the College Board Admissions Testing Program Scholastic Aptitude Test.
