(Warwick, R.I.) - Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) today recognized the artistic talents of Marieanne Willis of Cranston. Willis recently designed and painted an ornament currently on display on the White House Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C. “I am honored that Marieanne took up this creative challenge on behalf of the residents of the Second Congressional District,” said Langevin. “While her talents are no secret to her family, friends and neighbors, I am glad she was able to share her skills with her fellow citizens in our Nation's Capital.” Willis, who grew up in Warwick, chose to paint Block Island’s Southeast Light and holly on the six-inch round plastic ornament. “I wanted to find a landmark that would represent the Ocean State well,” said Willis, who attended a White House ceremony with First Lady Laura Bush on December 2. “I have always had an interest in painting. My father was a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and would always take time to show me his different techniques.” Willis is a mother of two, Danielle and Joshua, and works within the Lifespan hospital network as a Medical Technologist specializing in the laboratory computer system.} |
