CONGRESSMAN COHEN ANNOUNCESS FAA GRANT FOR MEMPHIS-SHELBY COUNTY AIRPORT

Washington, DC -- Today Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced the Federal Aviation grant award in the amount of $7,277,015.00 to theMemphis-Shelby County Airport Authority forconstruction of a deicing containment facility, construction of a taxiway, improvements to the terminal building, runway rehabilitation, taxiway rehabilitation, and updating the Airport Master Plan Study. Specifically,

Congressman Cohen, who serves on the House Transportation Committee, said, "District 9 is one of the nation’s most important transportation hubs and I’m pleased that the FAA has provided this grant which will improve our airport."

Following this grant announcement, FAA will notify the sponsor of the AIP allocation. A grant offer will be issued subsequently for this grant as finally formulated.
This grant provides funding for a de-ice pad at the south end of Taxiway Yankee which will allow for the collection of glycol from this site.
This grant provides funding for the rehabilitation of a portion of Taxiway Sierra that is needed due to the aging pavement which is experiencing significant deterioration of its concrete panels.
This grant provides funding for a geotechnical analysis and drainage investigation for Runway 9/27 to determine the appropriate method of rehabilitating this runway.
This grant will provide funding to update the airport's master plan and will include a terminal study. The master plan will also include a seismic study and associated economic evaluation of the cost associated with retrofitting structures on airport to withstand seismic activity.
This grant will provide funding to reimburse the airport authority for funds used to rehabilitate Taxiway Victor.
This grant will provide funding to install emergency generators for the public use areas of the terminal building that would need to be available during emergency power outages.
