Washington, DC -- Today, the U.S. House approved an appropriations amendment to increase funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) by $100 million and for Historically Black Graduate Schools by $25 million. Speaking on the floor of the House in support of the amendment, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) pointed out that Historically Black Colleges and Universities have not been funded over the past several years, citing the continuing critical need of HBCUs. Saying that HBCUs, "are still the first choice for most African American students," Congressman Cohen stated that support for HBCUs will permit "those who have not had the opportunity to share in the American dream."
