Washington D.C. - Congressman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX), Chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), and Congressman John Campbell (R-CA), RSC Budget and Spending Taskforce Chairman, today said that the RSC will rally behind the FY 2008 Budget submitted by Ranking Member of the Budget Committee (and RSC Steering Committee member) Paul Ryan (R-WI).
“This is a historic budget, and represents the type of accountability that Americans deserve,” said Hensarling, the author of the previous three RSC budgets. “Traditionally, the RSC has introduced a budget that balances America's financial obligations with fiscal reality. This year, Paul Ryan has introduced a historic GOP Conference Budget out of the 'Kasich mold' that reflects those truths, and the RSC is proub to rally behind it.”
“This budget represents a commitment to fiscal discipline not seen by the Republican Conference since the first budgets after the ‘94 Revolution,” said RSC Budget and Spending Taskforce Chairman John Campbell. “The Republican budget includes entitlement reform, balances the budget in five years without raising taxes, and represents the one of the first budgets in recent memory to protect money reserved for Social Security.
“The difference between the two parties in Congress could not be more pronounced. As Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats seek to impose the largest tax increase in history upon American Families and send Social Security on a path toward bankruptcy, Republicans will work to preserve and protect social security, and balance the budget without raising taxes,” Campbell said.
“Washington cannot carry on business as usual and must not back away from our responsibility to American families. The Democrat budget is mum on the biggest fiscal challenge facing our country – entitlement spending.” said Hensarling. “I challenge all Democrats to compare the two budgets and ask ‘which is better for my children and grandchildren?’ Should they do so with a pure heart, the GOP budget will pass with overwhelming bi-partisan support.”
The Republican Study Committee consists of over 100 fiscally responsible, conservative House Republicans.
