The Democrats’ Global War on Weather
Democrats Cut Intelligence Resources to Study Global Warming

Washington D.C.Last week, Democrats on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence approved deep cuts to classified intelligence resources requested by the Administration that were put into place to help America defeat radical Islamic terrorists, rogue nations and foreign enemies.  Instead, Democrats are using valuable resources to finance a National Intelligence Estimate to study Global Warming.

The 2008 Intelligence Authorization bill, set to be considered in the House this week, calls for the Director of National Intelligence to submit to Congress a national intelligence estimate (NIE) on the geopolitical effects of global climate change.  This is reminiscent of the 1990s, when the Clinton Administration promulgated across the board cuts to intelligence funding for analysis and collection only to fund “questionable” projects such as a “DCI Environmental Center” – notorious for wasting intelligence resources.  The center diverted important spy satellite time to survey the polar ice caps and the nesting habits of sea turtles on beaches.

Former CIA Director George Tenet said in his recent book that environmental intelligence analysis was pursued because of the interests of Vice President Gore and was nicknamed “bugs and bunnies.”

Jack Bauer, Climatologist???

Democrats continue to be of a pre-9/11 mindset and are attempting to shift strategic intelligence resources to politically correct activities.   The question is not about whether global warming is happening, it’s about whether global warming is a legitimate intelligence priority.

“Intelligence panel Chairman Silvestre Reyes, Texas Democrat, said the climate-change study is one of several shifts his party has made to intelligence policy. ‘We're concerned that global warming might impact our ability to maintain national security,’ said Reyes, describing the idea as "cutting edge.”
 (Detroit News, 5/4/07)

In a post-9/11 world, the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, or any other intelligence agency should not be tasked with studying global warming.  There are other government resources for that.

is provided the resources to do so.
