RSC Statement on Democrat Budget
Largest Tax Increase in History, Reckless Spending, Entitlement Silence

Washington D.C.- Congressman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX), Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, today issued the following statement after House Democrats passed budget that would impose the largest tax increase in American history while recklessly increasing wasteful Washington spending:

“House Democrats today passed a budget that raises taxes on a family of four by $3,000, on the elderly by over $2,000, and on a single parent with two children by $1,600 – all at a time when families are wondering how they are going to send their kids to college and how they are going to put gas in their cars to drive to work each day.

“Plain and simple, the Democrat budget includes the largest tax increase in American history, while allowing the wasteful pork barrel factory that is Congress to keep wasting taxpayer dollars on Bridges to Nowhere, Woodstock Museums and monuments to themselves.

“Once again, the Democrat majority remains stone cold silent on entitlement reform, the number one threat to the next generation’s opportunity and freedom.  This Democrat budget does nothing to reform entitlement spending or to give us greater retirement security or more affordable healthcare.  Their constant silence on entitlements threatens to bankrupt future generations, including my children.

“The difference between the two parties in Congress could not be more pronounced.  As Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats seek to impose the largest tax increase in history upon American families while remaining silent on entitlements and increasing rising gas prices, Republicans will continue to fight to keep hardworking Americans’ taxes low and to lower gas prices by increasing America’s energy supply through new exploration.”
