GOP Rallies Around RSC Effort to Sustain Bloated
Appropriations Bill Vetoes

Washington D.C.- Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX), the Chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), and Rep. John Campbell, Chairman of the RSC Budget & Spending Taskforce, today issued the following joint-statement on the RSC led pledge to sustain a Presidential veto of Democrat passed-spending bills that exceed the White House budget request.  The measure has so far been supported by 147 GOP Members (list attached):

Hensarling Statement:

So far this year, the Democrats have passed the largest tax increase in history and authorized over $105 billion in new domestic spending before the appropriations bills have even reached the floor.  House Republicans are united around the effort to sustain a Presidential veto of any bloated spending bill that exceeds the White House budget request.

“The Republican Study Committee is leading a united GOP effort to protect American taxpayers, and we intend to continue to use all means within our power to highlight the Democrats’ empty promises of fiscal responsibility while working to ensure that taxpayers are protected from the massive tax hikes that fuel their runaway spending.  We look forward to continuing to gain support in the Republican Conference as this effort continues.”

Campbell
Statement:

“I am pleased to join Congressman Hensarling and the Republican Study Committee to announce that we’ve gathered enough signatures to sustain the President’s veto of appropriations bills that exceed his request for FY08.

“This victory demonstrates that Congressional Republicans will stick together to hold Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats accountable for their outrageous tax hikes and their hollow promises of fiscal responsibility.  I am grateful to all of my colleagues who signed this important letter, and look forward to continuing to work with them to rein in excessive federal spending.”
