House Conservatives Continue to Demand Vote for
More American Energy, Lessen Pain at the Pump
Pelosi Shutdown Can’t Stop the Will of the American People

Washington D.C.- Congressman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX), Chairman of the House Republican Study Committee (RSC), today issued the following statement as House Republicans continued to ignore Speaker Pelosi’s shutdown of the House of Representatives by taking their case directly to the visitors of the House Chamber and the to American people by demanding an emergency session this month to vote on the American Energy Act:

“People across our nation strongly support exploration for more American energy and Republicans are going to do everything within our power to force Congress to vote on it.   Democrats in control of the House can turn off our microphones and try to halt the presses, but they cannot muzzle the American people.

“The Speaker says that we need to ‘use our imagination’ for her to allow a vote for more American energy.  Well, I've got a wake-up call for her – Americans shouldn't have to imagine their summer vacations, they should be able to take them.  Americans shouldn't have to imagine their commute to work, they should be able to afford it.  And in the greatest deliberative body in history, the peoples’ Representatives shouldn't have to imagine a vote for more American energy, they should get one.”

“Speaker Pelosi’s new book is called, Know Your Power, yet she doesn’t seem to understand that her power is not greater than the will of the people over whose House she presides.”
