Washington D.C.- Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX), Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, issued the following statement after senior House Democrats announced that they would try to impose a ‘war tax’ upon American families in order to fund American service men and women fighting terrorism abroad:
“Democrats seem to have an endless desire to fund everything except the men and women of our armed forces fighting terrorists abroad, and that is pathetic. They haven’t been able to send a single appropriations bill to the President, including one which provides funding for our veterans, yet they have the audacity to attempt to impose yet another tax on American families.
“I’ve got news for Democrats – American families already pay a war tax – it comes out of every paycheck. Perhaps if Democrats would practice a little of the fiscal responsibility that they so often preach, they would spend less time trying to tax American families and more time doing their jobs. The policy of the Democrat majority is now clear: Raise taxes on the American people, lose the war in Iraq.”
