Washington, DC -- Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) today issued the following release following the announcement by the Labor Department that unemployment had hit a 26-year high of 10.2%. “This morning’s unemployment numbers should be a wakeup call to those in the Administration and on the Hill who are pushing forward with their job-killing agenda. From cap and trade to Speaker Pelosi’s health bill, small businesses are paralyzed with fear about the prospects for new, massive tax increases. The legislative agenda of the majority has little resemblance to anything that could even partially be construed as promoting job creation. “Where are the jobs? When the Speaker passed the President’s so-called stimulus bill, the American people were told that this bill would create millions of new employment opportunities with shovel-ready projects. From what I can tell, the only thing it stimulated was the growth of government. The American people are clamoring for members of Congress to work together to get this country back on track, and all they see is a bloated government taking over every sector of the private economy.”
