April 16, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                         Contact: Brian Thomas (202) 225-6605

IRVING, TEXAS – Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) issued the following release regarding his participation in the Southlake Tea Party held at Town Square Pavilion.

“I was glad to join Southlake Mayor Andy Wambsganss and WBAP’s Mark Davis along with a large and spirited crowd of hardworking District 24 residents at the Southlake Tea Party. This Tea Party, just like the nearly 800 around the country today, is indicative of a not so silent citizenry disgusted with the recent explosion of government spending and intervention in the private sector. They feel their voices are not being heard in Washington, and I wanted to be there to show my support for this grassroots effort.

“No matter where I travel in the district, I get the same question from my constituents: Where is my bailout? They want to know when government is going to get off their back, stop milking the taxpayer, and begin to regain fiscal responsibility. They reject the notion that hyperinflationary monetary policy is the answer to getting the nation’s economic engine restarted. The root of these protests was a backlash against the out of control spending which my constituents know will inevitably lead to higher taxes.

“The groundswell by the American people calling for leadership by their elected officials is readily apparent. My long record as both a tax cutter and deficit hawk is clear. A plethora of good government, pro-growth, pro-taxpayer organizations have recognized my efforts as a leading advocate for fiscal restraint. I will continue to champion these issues as I return to Washington next week.”
