Press Release
Marchant heads panel at 11th Annual Transportation Summit
August 14, 2008

IRVING, TX – U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) was a guest speaker and panelist on Aug. 14 at the 11th Annual Transportation Summit held at the Omni Mandalay Hotel in Irving.

The 11th Annual Transportation Summit was attended by elected officials and industry professionals from across the country to explore every mode of transportation and issues affecting highways, transit, high-speed rail, seaports, aviation, security, safety and financing.

Marchant was joined on the transportation panel by several of his congressional colleagues to discuss the connection between the transportation industry and the federal government.

“As our nation shifts to a more efficient and energy conscious economy, traditional gasoline taxes that go to the highway trust fund for transportation and infrastructure are simply not going to exist as they once did,” said Marchant.

“We must leverage non-federal money through innovative financing options and create as much flexibility as possible on the state and federal levels,” he continued.  “Energy independence and thoughtful transportation policy must go hand in hand if we want to maintain and improve infrastructure for the future.”

The event marked the first of three district events attended by Marchant on Aug. 14.  Marchant has participated in a number of district events during August, the month Congress takes a month long break from Washington.
