CARROLLTON, TX -- U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) was the guest speaker for the Citizens for Immigration Reform on Aug. 6 at the Carrollton Senior Center. Marchant discussed the need to secure the borders with additional personnel, strategic infrastructure and advanced technology. He walked members through the legislative steps that have already been taken and the obstacles ahead for comprehensive immigration reform. Marchant said immigration reform is an issue that concerns everyone and must be addressed smartly, effectively, and expediently. “The scale and nature of this challenge impacts all of our lives, whether it is health care costs or social services in our communities,” said Marchant. “We must effectuate a policy that strongly combats illegal entry and compliance, and at the same time creates a more efficient, fair, and effective process for legal immigration.” He also briefed the group on measures that have blocked immigration reform, the role of National Guardsmen on the Southern border, and the Real ID Act. Club members asked several questions following Marchant’s speech. Some of the topics included energy, taxes, and health care. There were roughly seventy-five attendees at the event. The event marked one of many speaking engagements in which Marchant has participated in District 24 during August. As part of the Legislative Reorganization Act, Congress recesses for the month of August. ### |
