Carrollton-Farmers Branch Rotary welcomes Marchant
October 21, 2008

DALLAS -- U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) gave a legislative policy update last week to the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Rotary Club during a luncheon held at the Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas.

In his address, Marchant explained his reasoning for voting against the recent bailout proposal and also discussed his views on the future economic outlook.

“I have been very fortunate to have always worked within city and state government where balancing a budget was a top priority.  In Washington, there is a fundamental conception to divert our attention away from the deficit and national budget,” Marchant said.  “The future economic prosperity of our nation can not afford to put these issues on the backburner.”

Marchant’s speech offered a sobering yet realistic perspective as he spoke about the macro level of the economy.

“It is obvious that we need to enhance trust and confidence in the financial markets.  In times of struggle, America has always been up to the challenge – and I am confident we will overcome today’s hardships, as well.  To achieve this we must work together.”

Rotary members asked several questions following Marchant’s speech.  Some of the topics included energy independence and tax plans.
