IRVING, TX -- U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) experienced an afternoon of technology and innovation on Aug. 15 as he toured two leading global technology and telecommunications facilities in Irving. Marchant’s “technology tour” began with a visit to Accenture, a global management, consulting, technology services, and outsourcing company, followed by a tour and town hall style meeting with employees at Verizon Corporation, a leading global broadband and telecommunications company. Both facilities house several thousand employees in Congressional District 24, the area Marchant represents in Congress. The visit to Accenture began with the management team briefing Marchant about the history of the company, its technology services, community involvement, programs for their employees, and dedication to diversity. Marchant discussed his background in local, state, and federal government, and discussed a variety of topics including energy, business, and technology. “Leading corporations, like Accenture, are changing business models through technology and personalization of products and services,” said Marchant. “The way you harness talent and knowledge through technology services and networks extends not only to your employees and my constituents, but to people across the world. Through your work people’s horizons are broadened by allowing more opportunities for mobility.” After the visit, Marchant traveled to Verizon's facility. The Verizon tour began with a general overview of job functions performed in the building followed by a discussion with department heads about information technology, innovation, and community involvement. Afterwards, Marchant met with employees for a town hall style meeting. Speaking to a large group of Verizon employees in an auditorium, Marchant said the company exemplified the superior qualities of innovation the global marketplace demands. Marchant praised the company’s heavy research and development, and especially its efforts to create a streamlined bundle service by creating FiOS (Fiber Optic Service) which combines internet, television, and phone services. “Verizon has been a leading innovator in technology and also an outstanding corporate citizen to District 24,” Marchant said. “I do not pretend to be an expert in technology, but I do know your work helps create the modern world; and the technology and services you provide improves the quality of people’s lives by creating opportunities for accessible information.” Marchant also took time to answer many questions from the assembled employees. Some of the topics included energy, gas prices and questions about municipal and state government. Marchant frequently visits businesses in his district to understand how the operations positively affect the local economy and surrounding residents. ### |
