Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson today hosted U.S. General Service Administration (GSA) Regional Administrator Scott Armey at a small business workshop at the Bill J. Priest Institute for Economic Development in Dallas. Owners of more than 130 Dallas-area small businesses attended the workshop, which was designed to train them in the GSA government procurement process.
"As a one-time small business owner, I know first-hand how frustrating it can be going through the procurement process, especially with the federal government," Congresswoman Johnson said. "Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. In this time of economic uncertainty, I believe this workshop will benefit many small businesses in North Texas."
The General Service Administration is the primary acquisition agency and contractor for the federal government. It works with businesses to procure products, transportation and office space for federal employees. At the workshop, Armey outlined the procedures by which small businesses can find and apply for contracts with the federal government, and his staff held a match-making session with small business owners, identifying possible government contracts for each of the small businesses.
Herbert Austin, the director of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s North Texas district office, was also in attendance at the sessions.
