Washington, D.C. - By a unanimous vote today, the House of Representatives adopted H. Res 832, a resolution authored by Congresswoman Johnson honoring the Texas Water Development Board on its selection as a recipient of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) distinguished Performance and Innovation in the State Revolving Fund Creating Environmental Success Award.
"I am extremely honored and proud to recognize the Texas Water Development Board on such a significant achievement," stated Congresswoman Johnson. "To date the Texas Water Development has awarded approximately $4.3 billion in low interest loans to finance nearly 500 projects across the State of Texas."
The EPA created the Performance and Innovation in the State Revolving Fund Creating Environmental Success Awards to recognize successful state programs, in particular those that "further the goal of clean and safe water with exceptional planning, management, and financing." On Nov. 5, 2007, the Texas Water Development Board was honored as one of the ten 2007 recipients of the award. According to the EPA, the board "is remarkable for its support of water efficiency through water reuse and conservation."
"This distinguished award acknowledges that the Board has proven itself as a national leader in implementing effective water planning and financing policy," stated Congresswoman Johnson. EPA's Clean Water State Revolving Fund program funds water quality projects, including sewage treatment projects or watershed restoration. Under the program, states and certain territories maintain revolving loan funds to finance local projects.
