CONGRESSWOMAN JOHNSON ANNOUNCES AVAILABLE EPA GRANTS FOR NORTH TEXAS ORGANIZATIONS  INVOLVED WITH POLLUTION CLEAN UP PROJECTS

Grant applications for CARE program accepted until March 17, 2008

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson is urging North Texas agencies, as well as nonprofit organizations and universities working on, or planning to work on, reducing pollution in Dallas to take advantage of $3 million allocated grant money being provided by the Environmental Protection Agency (EBA) Region 6.

The Community for a Renewed Environment (CARE) program is a community-based, community-driven, multimedia demonstration program designed to help communities understand and reduce risks due to toxins and environmental pollutants from all sources. The CARE grant program attempts to help communities form collaborative partnerships, develop a comprehensive understanding of the many sources of risk from toxics and environmental pollutants, set priorities, and identify, and carry out projects to reduce risks through collaborative action at the local level. CARE’s long-term goal is to help communities build self-sustaining, community-based partnerships that will continue to improve human health and local environments into the future.

Interested parties can find more information on the CARE's program grants  at http://www.epa.gov/care
