Washington, DC: Today Congressman Bob Goodlatte released the following statement upon the release of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation’s (DRPT) final report on the Roanoke Region Intermodal Facility:

“I am extremely pleased with the progress of the Roanoke Region Intermodal Facility. Today’s announcement by the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation is an important step in making this facility a reality.  Now, the affected localities must work together to determine their recommendations on the next steps, including construction of the facility.

I was pleased to secure federal funding for the Intermodal Facility, which will provide a unique option for shippers.  This facility will provide a shorter route from the Port of Hampton Roads to the nation’s Heartland by 300 miles and reduce truck traffic and congestion and create jobs here in the Roanoke Valley.  The Intermodal Facility will help position Roanoke and the Commonwealth of Virginia as a leader in international trade.”
