Congressional Art Competition Winners Named

(Washington, DC, May 11, 2006) — Delegate to Congress Donna Christensen announced today that three Virgin Islands high school artists have been selected as this year’s winners of the 25th Annual Congressional Art Competition.  Alicia Peterson of Central High School on St. Croix was named as the third place winner.  Tangi James of the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School was  named as the second place winner and Sissel Holloway of the Country Day School on St. Croix was named as the first place winner.

Award ceremonies for the Art Competition will be held at 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. today at the offices of the Virgin Islands Council of the Arts at 5070 Norre Gade, St. Thomas. It is held under the auspices of the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the Office of the Delegate to Congress.

The work of the Virgin Islands students will be on display for a month at the Council of the Arts Offices to give the general public an opportunity to view it.  This year’s winner and his chaperone will travel to Washington, D.C. to participate in the nationwide competition.  Their work will be hung in the Capitol Tunnel along with the winners from across the country for one year.
