(Washington, DC, June 5, 2006) — Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen announces that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has launched a Debris Contractor Registry that will establish a nationwide list of debris removal contractors that can help communities better plan for and more rapidly respond to debris removal requirements in times of disaster. Contractors can now register their business in the database by logging on to the website https://65.207.63.84/usp3_nerr/default.aspx (there is an underscore after usp3 and there are no space in the address), and follow the instructions. Those that encounter problems or have questions or concerns regarding the use of the website can contact the helpdesk at 703-674-3003. Companies interested in registering must have a Data Universal Number System (DUNS) number in order to register. A DUNS number allows an organization to participate in Federal grants and provides a way for the Federal government to track how grant money is distributed. To obtain this number, call Dun & Bradstreet hotline at 1-866-705-5711 to receive one free of charge. At the conclusion of the telephone call, a number will be issued. FEMA does not contract directly with businesses for debris removal services, nor do they endorse, approve or recommend any contractor, even those listed on the registry. Contracts for these services, under presidential disaster declarations, are entered into by the local government. FEMA will reimburse eligible applicants for work completed by contractors. For more information, contact Shelley Thomas in Delegate Christensen’s DC office at (202) 225-1790. | |||
