CHRISTENSEN: NO BLACKOUT OF
BASEBALL PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR

(Washington, DC, October 2, 2006) — Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen announced today that she has worked with officials of Innovative Cable Television, ESPN and Major League Baseball to ensure that USVI baseball fans will be able to see the first-round of the playoffs, which have been blacked out to the territory for the past two years.

“This issue was brought to my attention to my attention by officials of ICC and I immediately contacted representatives of the Walt Disney Company, ESPN’s corporate parent to urge them to do whatever was necessary to prevent a repeat of the past two years when my constituents were unable to receive the first round of games that were broadcast.”

After some back and forth to determine whether it was Major League Baseball or ESPN that was responsible for this problem, I was informed by an official of Walt Disney that ESPN had acquired the rights to the games and as a result, I and my constituents could be assured that they would be able to see all of the playoff games this year.  I want to thank Rene Henry of Innovative and Tower Kountze of Blackwell Saunders as well as Richard Bates of Walt Disney for their assistance in resolving this matter.” Christensen said.
