(Washington, DC, October 2, 2006) — Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen is pleased to announce that the Virgin Islands Department of Education had received a grant from the United States Department of Education in the amount of $35,694.00.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education has received this grant for a project run period of one year. This funding will be used for the Improving Literacy through School Libraries program.  This program works towards the improvement of student reading skills and academic achievement by providing students with the increased access to up to date school library materials and a professionally certified school library media specialists.
