Rum Extenders  Pass House,
Expected to Pass Senate This Weekend

(Washington, DC, December 8, 2006) — Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen said today that legislation extending the rum tax cover over for two more years passed the House on Friday and was expected to pass the Senate over the weekend.

“I am also pleased that our rum tax rebate will remain at $13.25 for another two years,” Delegate Christensen said, although our efforts to get the remaining .25 (cents) continue.” The measure is retroactive to December 2005.

Christensen thanked Chairman Bill Thomas and Ranking Member Charles Rangel of the Ways and Means Committee for their support as well as Senators Charles Grassley and Max Baucus of the Senate Finance Committee for their assistance in moving the measure through.  She also thanked Governor Charles Turnbull and his lobbying team for their efforts in the measure’s passage.
