Rancho Cordova - Republican Congressman Dan Lungren of Rancho Cordova has seen them before -- anti-war protesters venting their sentiments against his ongoing support for the war in Iraq.

At a town hall meeting for constituents at Rancho Cordova's City Hall Monday night, the protesters were back, and they were inside the meeting making their voices heard.

"We should take care of the troops, but we've got to look at what's been done, like Dick Cheney. They lied about weapons of mass destruction," said one young man to both boos and some cheers.

Lungren drew a long round of cheers and applause when he responded, "If I am the president of the United States who has to resolve doubt either in favor of or against Saddam Hussein having weapons of mass destruction, I'm going to resolve it in favor of that which protects the American people."

Some constituents worry the war isn't being prosecuted aggressively enough. "[If] they try to shoot anybody, they've got to get permission," said one older man.

"The rules of engagement are changing," promised Lungren.

To those with doubts about the lastest troop surge and effort to restabilize the country, Lungren urged patience, asking them to wait for a report due in September by Commanding General David Petraeus.}
