Neil's Notebook "Congressional Salute" recognizes Neil's '09 appointees to military academies

Honolulu, Hawaii – Rep. Neil Abercrombie hosted a “Congressional Salute” at Fort Shafter to pay tribute to seven 2009 military academy appointees, along with their families, from Hawaii’s First Congressional District, as the appointees prepare for enrollment at their respective schools.
The event was held on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Hale Ikena, Fort Shafter from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
The appointees included five high school seniors graduating in 2009 and two recent high school graduates from the First District who will attend the Air Force Academy, Military Academy at West Point and Naval Academy. They appointees are:
Brandon Ball (Iolani School), U.S. Military Academy at West Point;
Danielle Cortez (Sacred Hearts Academy), U.S. Air Force Academy;
Joseph Durso (Iolani School), U.S. Military Academy at West Point;
Bailey Miller (Kaiser High School), U.S. Naval Academy;
Markus Rohlfing (St. Louis High School/Valley Forge Military College), U.S. Naval Academy;
Mark Rulona (Iolani School), U.S. Air Force Academy;
Jessica Wong (Moanalua High School/New Mexico Military Institute), U.S. Air Force Academy.
Five of the appointees were nominated by Neil. Brandon Ball and Joseph Durso received appointments from the President of the United States.

Lieutenant General Douglas Fraser; Deputy Commander, USPACOM, and
2Lt Karl Punahele Motoyama (recent graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy).
