Neil spoke to the national legislative conference of the 2009 Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO on Monday. The BCTD coordinates and supports the work of its affiliated national and international unions to maintain a strong voice in government, in bargaining, and in their communities.
On Tuesday, he’ll be a guest on Voice of America’s Mandarin Chinese television program, “Issues and Opinions,” to talk about human rights in China and his leadership of the Congressional Caucus on Tibet. Neil helped to form the caucus last year to gain congressional support for the Dalai Lama and to raise awareness of the Chinese government’s human rights violations towards the people of Tibet.
This week also provides a full slate of committee and subcommittee work for Neil, as part of his memberships on the House Armed Services Committee and Natural Resources Committee:
On Tuesday, the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness holds a hearing on the Navy’s operations and maintenance budget request for fiscal year 2010.
On Wednesday, the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Insular Affairs, Oceans & Wildlife conducts an oversight hearing on the upcoming International Whaling Commission meeting.
Also on Wednesday, Neil chairs his Air and Land Forces Subcommittee as it continues work on Air Force programs.
