U.S. REP. BOBBY L. RUSH MEETS WITH SENATOR JOHN EDWARDS IN ENGLEWOOD TO DISCUSS BEST PRACTICES FOR MOVING PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY

Chicago, IL. ---- Congressman Bobby L. Rush announced today that he will meet with Senator John Edwards, the 2004 Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee and former U.S. Senator from North Carolina, in Chicago for a roundtable discussion on best practices for moving people out of poverty.  After the discussion, Congressman Rush will take Senator Edwards, who was recently named director of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity, on a tour of Englewood to show the growth of the community as well as the potential. The two leaders are coming together as a result of their commitment to raising awareness and finding solutions to eradicating poverty.

 “Using the Englewood community as a model,  I extended an invitation to Senator Edwards so he can and see for himself the possibilities that exist in moving people from poverty to prosperity,” said Rush. “Together, I believe we can raise awareness to this often overlooked issue and take some of the best practices from our meeting and replicate them nationwide.”

 Joining Congressman Rush will be community leaders, who will provide insight on their socio-economic programs, and individuals who will shed light on specific programs that have helped them in areas of education, job creation, housing and health care.}
