WASHINGTON –The U.S. House of Representatives passed the National Instant Criminal Background Check Improvement Act. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) voted for the measure and issued the following statement:
“I was pleased to see that the NRA endorsed the legislation. I agree with the NRA’s assessment that this bill would improve the background check system, but not at the expense of Second Amendment rights. I have a solid record of supporting gun rights, and the legislation passed today would improve the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, without intruding upon gun owners’ rights.
“The bill would also allow some people currently unfairly prohibited from owning guns to have their gun ownership rights restored.”
