WASHINGTON, DC – Houghton County Memorial Airport has been awarded a $648,850 grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation.  U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced the funding, which will be used to acquire an aircraft rescue and fire fighting vehicle for the airport.

“This new vehicle will help ensure the safety of those flying in and out of Houghton County Memorial Airport,” Stupak said.  “Funding like this is critical to providing airports in rural areas across Northern Michigan with the most up-to-date and efficient equipment to serve their customers.”

This funding is provided through the regular federal appropriations process and is awarded through competitive grants.  This funding is not part of the economic recovery legislation passed earlier this year.
