WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced East Jordan will receive a loan for $27,000 and a grant of $9,000 for the purchase of police vehicles.  The funding has been awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Community Facilities Loan and Grant program.

“These vehicles will help law enforcement officials of East Jordan better serve and protect the community,” Stupak said.  “I am pleased the USDA is continuing to invest in public safety in rural communities across Northern Michigan.”

The funding will be used to purchase four new police vehicles for East Jordan.  Several current vehicles have reached excessive mileage capacity.

The USDA Community Facilities program provides grants and loans to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas.  Funds can be used to construct, enlarge, or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and community and public services.
