WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced Whitefish Township will receive a $100,000 grant to assist in the construction of a new emergency service building.  The grant was awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Economic Impact Initiative Grant program.

“By bringing emergency vehicles and equipment under one roof, Whitefish Township will be able to protect and serve residents in the area more efficiently and effectively,” Stupak said.  “USDA grants like this one are critical to upgrading and improving facilities in rural communities across Northern Michigan.”

The grant money will be used to fund the construction of a facility to house all emergency vehicles and equipment at one location in Whitefish Township.  This consolidation will allow public safety officials to further organize safety procedures and better serve residents.

The USDA Economic Impact Initiative Grant program provides grants to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas.  The funds may be used for a variety of community facility needs including road maintenance equipment, police vehicles, computer and communication equipment, energy efficiency improvements and municipal buildings.
