WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded a $77,525 grant to the Long Rapids Township Fire Department in Alpena County for operations and safety. The grant is part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and will help the Long Rapids Township Fire Department protect and serve the community more effectively.
“This funding is critical to helping our firefighters and first responders do their job effectively and safely as they work to serve their community,” Stupak said. “I am pleased that the Department of Homeland Security is continuing to support Northern Michigan and communities like Long Rapids Township through this grant program.”
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards funding directly to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. The grants allow the departments and organizations to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of both the public and emergency responders.
